Public Activism:
1993-96 – Bery versus City of New York – Legal battle concerning artists’ rights to communicate in the public forum. Fought and won a case that enabled artists’ in New York City to promote their work publicly and in the streets-allowing the unrepresented artist, the outsider artist, a venue to display their work. This legalization of self-representation changed the landscape of Manhattan. One only has to walk through the art fairs and the city streets to witness and experience the vibrant artistic culture that is alive and well due to Bery’s pursuit for freedom of artistic expression.
